Hi Neighbors! I am a Gold Canyon resident and local REALTOR. I love living here near the mountains and hiking the trails. I have met many of you over the years and look forward to meeting more of you in the future. I am a huge advocate of shopping local and supporting our small businesses, which is why I have created this series of "Featured Small Businesses."

I got the pleasure of speaking with Lisa Fairbanks, owner of Wahoo's and the NEW Oldie's Ice Cream that is coming soon in the Basha's plaza. Here is what she had to say:

Q. What kind of crowd are you hoping to attract?
"Young, old, and everything in between.  We want folks to feel the past.  We are hoping to introduce the younger generations to the era too!"

Q. What makes this place special?
"We are trying to capture the essence of a simpler time. Just good old fashioned scoops with glass dishes, and 50's/60's music and bow ties too.  We want it to be an experience."
Q. What are you most proud of about the shop?
"The black and white checkerboard tile, the sandblasted mirror and old newspaper counters!"
Q. What businesses have you owned/managed/worked at before opening this?
"We have owned multiple restaurants and bars through the years.  We are about to start our fifth season at Wahoo's Restaurant and Bar."
Q. Who helped you plan this?
"It's been several years in the making.  My husband (Stan) and I have developed the strategies and the planning."
Q. What were your inspirations for the shop?
"My very first job was at an ice cream parlor in Gatlinburg, TN.  I have always cherished those memories. So many people remember the old soda fountains, drug stores and old fashioned ice cream parlors, but you can't find them.  They have become a thing of the past.  We truly hope we can bring back the great memories and a much simpler time...  even if it's just for one scoop in time."
Q. What do you recommend on the menu?
"Banana split, hot fudge sundaes, old fashioned sodas!  You order your favorite!"
Q. Any specials that everyone should know about?
"Every customer will receive coupons to Wahoo's and vice versa."
Q. What are your hours like?
"12pm-7pm, 7 days a week."
Q. Where did you get the shop's name "Oldie's" from?
"We created the name to help people relate to the era we want to serve up!"
Q. What can people expect when they first walk in?
"Old fashioned hospitality and a step back in time!"

Personally, I am super excited (and so are my kids) to give Oldie's a try when they open. You had me at ICE CREAM! :)
